Sonoma Packing List

sonoma packing list, sonoma weekend style, wine country style

1) jersey maxi skirt, 2) lived-in chambray, 3) striped tank, 4) tinted lip balm, 5) statement sandals, 6) non-greasy sunscreen, 7) bright cutoffs, 8) floaty scarf, 9) oversized sunglasses

It’s no secret (ok, it’s painfully obvious) that I’ve been cheating on my beloved San Francisco with wine country lately. Perhaps it’s my stubborn Midwestern-girl belief that summer should be hot, or maybe it’s the allure of catching up with one of my closest friends over a glass of bubbly. After many such visits to Napa & Sonoma, I’ve finally developed my perfect weekend packing list.

A drapey maxi skirt and striped tank are relaxed and chic for wine tasting. I like to elevate a casual outfit with bold sandals that are comfy enough to wear all day. For hot weather, I pare down my beauty routine and skip heavy lipsticks in favor of a tinted balm and layer of sunscreen. I like Neutrogena’s Dry Touch for its lack of grease factor and serious staying power. Finish the look with a pair of oversized sunglasses- I love them for their fun factor, but they’re also key in protecting the delicate skin around your eyes (thank me in 20 years).

I’ll be spending time with family in Sonoma this weekend, and I’ve heard rumors of a picnic and game of croquet (let’s hope I avoid hitting my own foot this time). Bright cutoff shorts, repeating the comfy tank, and a broken-in chambray tied at the waist are the way to go for a relaxed day in the park. I always bring a soft, square scarf to keep cozy once the temperature drops at night.

What are your staples for a summer weekend away?

One Sundress, Two Ways

One Sundress, Two Ways

One of my favorite fashion things to do is take one article of clothing and wear it in two completely different situations. Whether it’s wearing my combat-inspired boots with a babydoll dress or sequins for daytime, I taking clothing out of its usual context and making it new again.

In the collage above, I chose a sundress from the Topshop for Nordstrom collection (love!) and made it work-appropriate. Even though this outfit might not fly in more conservative workplaces, the classic black pumps, cinched belt, and tailored blazer anchor the outfit and keep it from being too cutesy.

For the weekend, I liked the idea of working with the dress’s playfulness and giving it a boho-chic vibe. Leather sandals and a cross-body bag are practical as well as stylish, and I love how the scarf and earrings play up the pretty colors in the dress’s floral pattern.

Now, if only the weather would make up its mind and just stay sunny for a while 🙂
