One of my most beloved holiday traditions is sifting through thousands of images online and hundreds of pieces of clothing face-to-face to create my holiday party outfits. I like to remix items in my closet with something new, almost always involving a healthy dose of sequins and glitter. When I read about IFB’s posting challenge to show off holiday party style, I knew I had to get cracking.
Instead of sticking with a single party look, I created four separate ensembles for four different occasions, unified by my love of unique silhouettes and lots of sparkle. I’ll be zipping around San Francisco quite a bit this month, from a hipster holiday bar crawl in the Mission District to a glitzy champagne lounge in North Beach and holiday lights & bubbly drinks in Union Square. And even though I’ll be staying in, I need something other than fleece PJ’s to wear to Christmas eve dinner!
Whether you’re in holiday social butterfly mode or curling up with a mug of egg nog and White Christmas, these outfits will see you through to the New Year (or the apocalypse, if you prefer).
BAR CRAWL IN THE MISSION DISTRICT
Mix a full party skirt with a casual sequined shirt/destroyed tee combo for a remix that walks the line between glitzy and relaxed. Adding tough-glam boots and gloves creates a cool vibe perfect for this funky neighborhood. Add a scarf to cut the chill and dark red lips & nails for a subtle pop of color!
CHAMPAGNE LOUNGE IN NORTH BEACH
Lounges in North Beach are notorious for tipsy girls in platform stilettos, too much eye makeup, and microscopic dresses. Flout the crowd with a slouchy take on the gold sequined minidress; the roomy fit and long sleeves balance out the short hemline and sky-high short boots. Add a matte eggplant mani to give the look some edge.
DRINKS & HOLIDAY LIGHT TOUR IN UNION SQUARE
Twinkle lights call for twinkly skirts, tops, and nails. Mix up metallics and textures by combining brocade, sequins, and glitter- why not? To keep things from getting too crazy, anchor the look with sturdy black pumps and a clutch with gold detailing. A thin black turtleneck creates an unexpected layer of warmth, coverage, and sophistication.
DINNER AT HOME IN PACIFIC HEIGHTS
What’s a night in without a cozy sweater? To elevate the look a little for entertaining, I added fun brocade shorts (natch!), tights, and flats with attitude. Heels on hardwood floors = bad news! The modest red sweater gets a boost from the unexpected pairing with shorts and super glossy lips.
What’s on your holiday calendar, and what will you be wearing to it?
